Memories of Henley from Mark Beard: Chief Executive of Beard, Partners in Construction
I was 27 when I arrived at Henley in 1991, having recently been appointed a Director of Beard, the family construction business. I believe, I was by far the youngest member on the New Henley Management Course which included an array of seasoned managers and Directors from the BBC, BT and many other well-known international organisations, all of whom were extremely forthcoming in sharing their knowledge and experiences. I also remember both Roger Martin Fagg and David Price very fondly both of whom made great efforts put to explain to me the intricacies of economics and marketing.
Henley gave me confidence as well as new skills and was the start of my progression from functional divisional director to Chief Executive of Beard, an organisation that has progressed during the period from small local builder to West of England Business of the Year.
The way Henley Business School focuses on developing the individual, who will have the skills and mind-set to respond to different challenges in our every changing world, is spot on and will be increasingly appreciated by organisations and individuals who want a business school who can deliver stand out leadership development.
